Our ApproacH
"Narcolepsy Unveiled" is a grassroots awareness and advocacy movement founded by Brilann Coleman, a passionate advocate for individuals living with narcolepsy. Brilann's personal experiences with Type 1 Narcolepsy, both as a sibling and as an individual living with the disorder, inspired her to create the campaign to raise awareness and advocate for change.
Growing up, Brilann witnessed the challenges her older sister faced in getting a proper diagnosis and treatment for narcolepsy, leading to frustration and misunderstanding within her family and the medical community. Later, Brilann herself experienced the impact of narcolepsy firsthand, enduring a long and challenging journey to diagnosis and treatment.
Driven by her experiences and a desire to make a difference, Brilann launched "Narcolepsy Unveiled" with the mission of shedding light on the realities of living with narcolepsy, challenging stigma and misconceptions, and advocating for improved support and resources for individuals affected by the disorder.
Through personal storytelling, community engagement, and advocacy efforts, "Narcolepsy Unveiled" seeks to empower individuals living with narcolepsy, educate the public and healthcare professionals, and drive positive change in the way narcolepsy is perceived and addressed in society. Join us in our mission to unveil the truth about narcolepsy and create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

About Our Founder
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact that narcolepsy
can have on a person's life. At just nine years old, I watched my older sister,
then sixteen, begin to experience episodes of sudden loss of muscle control
and consciousness. It was a bewildering and terrifying experience for our family,
as we struggled to understand what was happening.
Like many families facing unfamiliar health challenges, we turned to
medical professionals for answers. However, our concerns were often
dismissed, with narcolepsy symptoms attributed to dehydration or stress.
The frustration and emotional toll of not being heard weighed heavily
on my sister and our family as a whole.
I vividly recall the fear and helplessness I felt each time my sister experienced a narcoleptic episode. It felt like the world stopped with each fall, and we were left wondering if she would ever wake up again. Despite numerous visits to doctors, my sister was repeatedly misdiagnosed with conditions like depression or bipolar disorder, leaving her without the proper support and treatment she desperately needed.
Little did I know that my own journey with narcolepsy would intersect with my sister's in a profound way. In 2023, at the age of 22, my life took an unexpected turn when I experienced my first narcoleptic episode. I was working at Chick-fil-A when I suddenly passed out in the women's restroom, prompting a rush to the emergency room. Like my sister before me, I was met with skepticism and misdiagnoses, until a series of alarming episodes finally led to a diagnosis of Type 1 Narcolepsy.
The past year has been a whirlwind of doctor's appointments, medical tests, and personal challenges. I've experienced the frustration of being unable to work, the financial strain of medical bills, and the isolation of missing out on social activities with friends. Through it all, I've remained determined to raise awareness about narcolepsy and advocate for greater understanding and support.
That determination led me to launch "Narcolepsy Unveiled," a grassroots awareness and advocacy movement dedicated to empowering individuals affected by narcolepsy, challenging misconceptions, and driving positive change. My personal journey, along with the experiences of my sister and countless others living with narcolepsy, fuels my passion for this cause.
As I continue on this journey, I am committed to amplifying the voices of individuals living with narcolepsy, advocating for improved access to care and support services, and fostering greater understanding and compassion in society. Together, we can unveil the truth about narcolepsy and create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
